Volunteer at Shalom
About
The Shalom Center is a day center for people experiencing poverty and homelessness in Bloomington. It provides essential resources such as two hot meals per day, a place to receive their mail, crisis casework, laundry and shower services, and basic supplies. At Shalom, they recognize that stable housing, access to food, and career support are essential to the health of their guests. Members can help the Shalom Center empower their guests and improve community health through the following volunteer positions:
- Kitchen Volunteers help prepare, serve, and clean up after meals.
- Hospitality Volunteers run the main desk by assisting guests with essentials like soap, socks, mail, and first aid supplies. They also help guests sign up for laundry, shower, and casework services.
Shalom Center is one of several programs run by Beacon Inc, a local non-profit agency that also operates an overnight shelter, a permanent supportive housing program, and more.
